It appears there is a silent war brewing in Nollywood over the use of the tag ‘New Nollywood’. Things came to a head when filmmaker Uzo Okpechi who was a guest on the recent episode of The Gist with Emma Ugolee referred to the likes of O.C Ukeje and Blossom Chukwujekwu as ‘Instagram stars’ because they are not known outside Lagos. He also added that the names mentioned above have not contributed anything new to Nollywood.
Moses Inwang another filmmaker who appeared on the show when added that “They feel they have created a New Nollywood. They even call themselves the new Nollywood.” “If you put Blossom, OC Ukeje at the box office, and put a different film with Ramsay Nouah and RMD. It’s the movie with Ramsay that would probably pull more crowd,” Charles Novia also said. Not to take the slight sitting down, some actors, producers and directors took to Twitter to react to the statement, with some calling the filmmakers haters.

The tag New Nollywood is regularly used to describe a new generation of filmmakers (e.g. Stanlee Ohikhuare, Mildred Okwo, Niyi Akinmolayan) actors (O.C Ukeje, Adesua Etomi, Deyemi Okanlawon, Somkele Idhalama) and other movie personnel.
