Woman falls to her death aboard Carnival Cruise ship bound for Bahamas

A woman aboard a Carnival Cruise Line ship died Friday after falling several decks from the balcony of her cabin.
The Carnival Elation was near Freeport, Bahamas, when the unidentified woman fell to her death, a Carnival spokesman told the Miami Herald.
The ship had left Jacksonville on Thursday on a four-day trip to the Bahamas, according to the newspaper.

It wasn’t immediately clear from which level she fell, but witnesses describe a horrific scene to their relatives.
Maureen La Bryer got a text from her daughter, Megan Burdewick, saying her cabin was near the woman’s room and “there was blood everywhere,” the Miami Herald reported.
“We weren’t (allowed) off the boat to Freeport until they investigated it. They were taking pictures (and everything),” Burdewick, who was on the cruise with her husband, Matthew, reportedly texted La Bryer.
Carnival Cruise Line spokesman Vance Gulliksen told the Miami Herald crews rushed to the woman’s aid.
“The ship’s medical team responded immediately, but, unfortunately, she passed away,” he said in a statement to the newspaper. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased and her family.”
